Project Overview
- Recognized for excellence in innovation, design, construction, and community impact
- 2026 Central Penn Business Journal Top Projects Award Winner
This city of Lancaster property is nearly 2 acres and had been vacant for decades. After many months of planning, design and testing, Heck Construction Company, Inc was able to break ground in Spring 2023 for a 34,000 square foot WellSpan Health outpatient surgery center. One specific challenge was the soil density and HCCI utilized dynamic compaction in order to improve the soil. As part of CityGate Corporate Center, owned by Oak Tree Development Group, this building is home to several specialty medical practices and state-of-the-art diagnostic services. The surgery center is a two-story building sitting above a parking area on the ground level. Heck Construction is proud of our role in Building Our Community!
Recognized as a 2026 Top Projects Award Winner
The WellSpan CityGate Surgical Center was recognized by the Central Penn Business Journal as a recipient of its 2026 Top Projects Award, which honors the region’s most notable building and construction projects completed during the previous year.
Selected by the publication’s editorial team, Top Projects winners are evaluated on criteria including degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, project management, collaboration among project partners, adaptive reuse, and sustainability efforts.
The award recognizes the WellSpan CityGate Surgical Center’s contribution to the Central Pennsylvania community and highlights the successful collaboration between Oak Tree Development Group, WellSpan Health, Heck Construction, and the project team. The facility stands as a landmark healthcare project that expands access to advanced outpatient surgical services while supporting continued growth and investment in the Lancaster region.
